& Technical Information
The world’s finest moving bulkhead systems
for competition, recreational and leisure aquatic facilities.
For recreation, instruction, or competition, the need to provide a
facility that can accommodate multiple programming activities is crucial.
Natare Bulkheads span the width of a swimming pool creating a moveable
bridge, dividing a larger single activity pool into a multiple activity
pool. Easily moved, Natare Bulkheads can be repositioned to accommodate
both imperial or metric competition courses, or used to host two aquatic
events simultaneously such as scuba diving lessons and water aerobics.
Natare Bulkheads are rigid and stable, complying with all current FINA,
U.S. Swimming and NCAA requirements. Utilizing a box truss construction,
horizontal and vertical deflection is minimized, making bulkheads capable
of supporting in excess of 100 pounds per square foot.
The top and sides of the bulkhead are covered with an ASTM certified
slip-resistant PVC grating that dissipates wave rebound for competitive
swimming, maintains proper water circulation, and provides a safe and
secure walking and turning surface.
Natare manufactures the largest and most technologically advanced bulkheads
in the world. Our
experience has been proven in international competition as well as college,
high school and
recreational facilities.

Bulkhead
Strength
The superior strength and rigidity of the Uniwall Bulkhead comes from
its all stainless steel dyadic truss frame. Uniwall Bulkheads are designed
for the requirements of world-class swimming facilities.

Buoyancy chambers reduce the effective weight in water. |

The permanent white color of the ASTM 1028C certified slip-resistant
PVC grating will not wear off, yellow, or delaminate. No recoating
or painting is necessary. |

The carriage assembly provides support and allows access
to the locking mechanisms, movement controls, and buoyancy flotation
system. |

Rope hooks and anchors are recessed into the bulkhead
to reduce the danger of injury to swimmers. |

Horizontal and Vertical Movement
Hydraulically efficient, precisely engineered bulkhead systems are
capable of horizontal and vertical movement. |

University of Florida, O’Connell Center
The roof at the O’Connell Center is air supported with only a revolving
door for access. The challenge was to install two bulkheads in the pool
without collapsing the roof. By removing the existing doors and constructing
a temporary airlock through which the new bulkheads and appropriate equipment
could move, Natare successfully installed two bulkheads. The new bulkheads
were delivered to the university in six sections. Lift trucks, floating
dollies and rigging equipment were used to move the bulkheads from the
staging area through the airlock and onto the natatorium deck. There they
were reassembled, cleaned, and adjusted before being placed into the pool.

| Natare Bulkhead Advantages:
- One Piece Self-Supporting Stainless Steel Construction
This minimizes horizontal and vertical deflection without added
bracing.
- Complete Flow-Through for Wave Absorption
This prevents waves from rebounding and interfering with competition
swimming.
- Easily Moved to New Positions
Bulkheads are easily moved to change pools from yards to meters
or to divide pools into different activity areas.
- Grating
ASTM certified slip-resistant grating is used on the bulkhead's
top and side surfaces to provide a safe and secure walking and
turning surface.
- X-Ray Structural Certification
(Optional) All Welds are x-rayed to guarantee strength and quality
of welds.
- Cost Effective
Natare bulkheads eliminate the need for building additional pools
and provide new flexibility to existing facilities.

All Natare Bulkheads are designed to meet the requirements of individual
facilities. Our bulkheads can accommodate any gutter or pool perimeter
configuration, whether deck-level, fully-recessed or anything in-between.

University of Maryland
Two movable bulkheads provide multiple competition configurations,
including a fifty meter or two twenty-five yard or meter competition
courses. Additionally, the facility can host various swimming and
aquatic events simultaneously.

Repair and Renovation
Natare also repairs, renovates and provides field engineering services
for moving bulkhead systems anywhere in the world. Existing bulkheads
can often be cost-effectively renovated to take advantage of the latest
in bulkhead technology, movement and cladding systems.

More National and World Records Have Been Set Between Natare Bulkheads!
Natare Bulkhead systems are precisely engineered structures designed
to provide varying course lengths and accommodate varying program
activities in any size pool facility. Whether it’s meters or yards,
water polo or water aerobics, or simply dividing a diving well from
a recreational swimming area, a moving bulkhead makes the most of
any aquatic facility.
Natare Bulkheads can be configured for horizontal movement along
the length of a pool course and can even move vertically to be stored
in a pool bottom recess. Moving a bulkhead to a new position is
quick and easy.
Natare Bulkheads can be installed as a fixed wall to permanently
divide a pool into different areas or lengths, or designed to be
removed from the pool to accommodate seasonal pool needs. |
